The effects of MTV
In our society, pop culture is a growing, widespread disease. I call it a disease because
it has a way of entering our minds without us even knowing. The effects may not be life-threatening,
but they can be equally deadly in other ways. MTV, the growing pop culture coporation, is no longer
a station that provides us with music television. MTV utilizes their economic power for all the wrong reasons.
They target teens and young adults, whom usually have the most disposible income and whom usually are a bit more
influenced than the older more mature crowd. With flashy programs that glamourize hollywood life, MTV thrives on their
audience, who will always come back for me. But as they make their money selling sex, scandals, and *some* music, they are
definately killing our young minds that we rely on for our future.
MTV has a variety of programs, many of which fall into the reality programming category; a horrible gimmick that makes quick cash.
In particular, MTV's Cribs, is by far the worst idea for a program ever created, with a show that surrounds the glorious life of
multimillionaires... not educated individuals either. We get to see their fancy cars, their mansion of a house and all the "toys" that
go with it. Constantly flashing materialism in front of these young minds is just a waste. It is often frusterating to sit and watch a program
that glamourizes all the things you cant have or afford. These things don't make these stars better people, nor does it teach anything to anyone.
It has nothing to do with music and it definately doesn't have a point. It's shows like this that make me dispise MTV more and more...
but wait, it gets better...
My Super Sweetsixteen: a reality show that basically surrounds a rich, caucasian 16 year old *little* girl who wants to have the absolute biggest
sweet sixteen party. IS THIS FOR REAL? Is MTV really THAT desperate? Just when you thought they couldn't stoop any lower, they did.
I refuse to watch the show through and through.Ive seen commercials and teasers and thats enough for me. To see these young girls crying, throwing tantrums and
being, overall, a total snobby bitch, it just doesnt do it for me. 16 year old rich brats who feel they NEED that brand new BMW or they will just die, is just ridiculous
for a show idea! But MTV knows people will watch it. WHY? because it's SO over the top. People can't believe what they see so they will continue to watch it
even if they hate it. They love to hate it, as stupid as that sounds. I really wish people would realize what they are doing. It's not worth it.
Dont tune into MTV to make fun of it or laugh at it... you are only causing their ratings to go up which allows them to come out with more stupid shit, like
MY SUP SWEETSIXTEEN PART 234235. I dont allow myself to be another ignorant statistic. It's so much more important to hold people who deserve to be high in the light, as high as you can.
People who actually make a difference in the world. Im not saying dont support music. by all means do it! but be aware that there are more important things in the world than pimping out someones ride.
while one 16 year old girl is crying because she didnt get her louis vuitton outfit, another is starving with little or no medical attention in a 3rd world country. Educate yourself.
